14 July, A Historic Event...sorta

Yesterday we packed so much into the day that we wore poor Isaac out before he even got to the pool for the swimming lesson.  Isaac was so tired he had a minor meltdown and had to snuggle up with Grandpa Peter.  Here's how all that happened:  The campers woke us at 0600.  That's a shock to my system.  After a cup of coffee and reading the paper we proceeded to check the garden and pulling up some carrots.  Then we found some cucumbers.

Of course we had to clean out the birdbath, which leads to squirting water on each other.

Next we had our civics lesson on voting.  You see, we had a special election to recall our Mayor.  There is a long story behind the recall, suffice to say that there was a very large turnout and he was recalled by a 2:1 vote.  The campers got to walk through the voting process and see how it's done here.

Next we went to Story Hour at the library.  After the story the campers got to make fish.

After quiet time (which did not last nearly long enough) the campers discovered that Elenor and Evan were walking their dog, Lucy.  Everyone had to go out to play and pet Lucy.  Ruby decided to draw a hop scotch but not to stop at 10 squares.  She decided to go to 50 but ran out of sidewalk at about 35.  Between skipping, chasing the ball, and chalk drawing the campers were out in the sun for long enough to deserve a treat.  We had sherbert on the porch.

I think you can see why Isaac was worn out when we got to the pool!  Dinner was a family affair and everyone was so well behaved that they deserved a special desert.  In this case it was cupcakes.
After a cool-down from dinner, but before bed time we got a real surprise.  Isaac announced that he was ready to poop in the toilet.  All parents can appreciate the importance of this first time event.  Isaac was rewarded with a handful of M&Ms.  This morning Ruby let us know that she slept all night without wetting her PullUp, another milestone and worthy of a handful of M&Ms.  Not to be outdone, Liv did a wonderful job of combing her hair and got her handful of M&Ms too.  We have our fingers crossed.
