3 July, busy weekend in Portsmouth

Like just about anywhere else in the USA, the 4th of July weekend is a big deal.  Here we throw in some pirate activities for the children and that's what we did in the morning.  All children need to know the consequences of their actions.....this might be a bit extreme but it gets the point across...just kidding, of course.  Isaac thought it was fun.

A game of chance is a great way to relax and maybe lose all your wages.  Isaac seemed to be getting the hang of this game.  It was like shuffleboard but with smaller objects to slide.

This lady was demonstrating how they dried food for long voyages.  She was stringing apples, beans, and carrots to air dry.

Here Isaac learns how to string beans.

The tent was pretty small but about the right size for PVT Isaac.  You can see that he is ready to stand guard with that musket!

Of course a soldier needs a backup weapon so Isaac practiced with the sword.

The Spirit of Independence happened to be in port so we went aboard.  Isaac thought that was pretty cool.

As we were heading home we stopped by to say hello to Betsy and Drew.  He will only be here for a few more days and then he has to go back to New York.  Everyone will miss Drew.  Too bad Liv won't get to see her secret boy friend!

Thinking of Liv, Isaac loves the same books that Liv and Ruby read when they were this age.  I hope Liv will read some of them to him.
