19 July, a rainy day

We knew that this would be a large day.  Barbara Vincent offered to give the campers an art class.   Everyone was excited and the pictures tell the tale better than I can:

These are coffee filters that have been painted.
Many thanks to Barbara for this great idea and her artistic vision.  The campers had a wonderful time.  Barbara has offered to do this again next week and the campers are already excited!

After quiet time (nap time for the adults) we had swimming lessons.  This is the second two week session at the YMCA and we have the same two instructors (Miss Sheryl and Miss Nicole) so the campers feel right at home.  After two weeks of lessons the campers show real progress.  The milestones today were Isaac jumping into the pool with no help, Ruby swimming under water and rising to take a breath four times, and Liv doing somersaults under water in addition to swimming the length of the pool with no breaks.
You can see that Ruby and Miss Sheryl get along great.

Here's proof that Liv can go upside down in the pool.

Isaac's big moment was the jump.

Then it started to rain...but the class went on anyway.  Heck, everyone was already wet!

And the rain turned into a downpour.  Notice that Liv could care less.

Tomorrow is another large day.  We do not have any events planned...yet.

  1. WOW!!!! Congratulations to all the amazing swimmers! Isaac: a big jump by yourself! You must be so proud! And Ruby: FOUR breaths is a lot! Great job! Try for 5 next time, ok? Liv: now you're doing flips too??!! That's wonderful! You and Ruby will be the underwater gymnastics girls. I am really impressed at all the great progress you 3 are making. I love the artwork too. Dad, please tell Barbara she's awesome for giving these creative kids an outlet. You and Sara are pretty rad too, developing such fun channels of expression and activity for the "campers". Very nice--makes me jealous!
